Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see an art therapist if I already am seeing a counselor or psychotherapist?

Absolutely. In addition to being effective on its own, art therapy can be very helpful as a support alongside traditional talk therapy. I have 10 years’ experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and would be pleased to consult with your primary therapist to best help you.

What if I can’t draw or I’m not artistic?

There’s no experience or talent required for art therapy to be beneficial. You don’t need to be able to draw realistically to participate in art therapy. Many of the activities we may do together won’t involve drawing at all.

What kinds of things are we going to do?

Sessions may start with a check in or ‘warm up’ to determine what materials would be ideal to meet your needs. I will make art too as a way to stay immersed in the creative process and provide support to you through modeling. Together, we will reflect on what was created and explore themes and insights.

Why don't you accept my insurance?

I am currently credentialing with major insurance networks. It may take several months from start to finish. Feel welcome to inquire about your specific insurance and where I am in the process.

What do I need to do to prepare for my first session?

You may wish to come with a particular question or goal in mind (this can be discussed during your free consultation). You do not have to research any materials in advance of your session. Art supplies will be provided. Just come with an open mind!

What is an Insurance Super Bill?

Some insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits and may reimburse you for a portion of what you paid. A Super Bill is a document that you can provide to your insurance to access these benefits. It will outline the services that we completed and your diagnosis code (which we will discuss together). Please contact your insurance company to get more information.

Do you have a late cancellation or no-show fee?

I ask that you provide a minimum of 48 business hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations made within that 48-hour period will be billed $50. No shows and cancelations with less than 24 hours noticed will be billed $100.

Does confidentiality apply to creative arts workshops?

Good Light Art Therapy prioritizes creating a safe space for you to explore and share. We will adhere to professional confidentiality guidelines and will not share your information or your artwork without your permission. If you choose to share your experience in a group therapy session or creative arts workshop, that is at your discretion.

What age patients do you work with?

I work with all ages above 5 years old, but am presently accepting new referrals for adults. See “Art Therapy” tab for more information about specializations.
